Internships

Energize your career with an internship at KCP&L.

Interns in the field

Are you a smart, strategic thinker with a strong work ethic and a desire to work in the energy field? Are you looking for a well-paying job that also offers real-world, hands-on experience? Would you like to make a meaningful impact on the community?

KCP&L is looking for people just like you.

Whether you’re studying engineering, information technology, finance or marketing and communications, we have an opportunity for you.

What you can expect

KCP&L interns dive right into meaningful projects. They receive mentorship from professionals in their focus areas. They benefit from real-world experience. And they have an inside track for fulltime jobs with KCP&L—students in good standing after interning with us for at least two years typically receive an offer for employment after graduation.

Over the course of our 10-week summer internship (June 1 – August 7), interns experience:

  • Meaningful, mentor-led projects
  • Presenting to our executive staff and peers
  • Tours of our facilities, including power-generation sites
  • Networking events at sites such as Kaufmann Stadium
  • Training with an image consultant on how to dress for success in a business setting

How to apply

To begin your journey as a KCP&L intern, please visit our booth during college recruiting events (occurring in both spring and fall semesters). We will also post potential openings here. You may also reach out directly to Cynthia B. Kearney at (816) 556-2150 or via email
