MPower - It pays to participate

Controlling summer peak demands and avoiding costly generation growth are important to KCP&L. So important, in fact, that we’ll pay you to help. With MPower, KCP&L pays you to reduce your usage a few times a year and help us manage our peak summer demand.

MPower provides you with an annual payment just for agreeing to "be on call" to reduce your usage by a fixed amount if requested. It also provides you with an additional payment every time you are asked to reduce your usage and successfully do so. Try our MPower payment calculator (Excel spreadsheet) to find out what kind of benefits your business might receive with MPower.

KCP&L will help you identify your estimated peak demand and your firm power level - the maximum you could comfortably maintain during a curtailment. The difference is called your Curtailable Load and it’s the amount upon which your credits are based. Credits vary in amount depending on the term of your contract and your curtailable load. To be eligible, you must be able to provide a minimum seasonal reduction of 25 kW.

  • Payment for reducing load and helping the KCP&L region maintain electric system reliability
  • One-, three- and five-year contracts
  • Limited peak day hours between noon and 10 p.m.
  • Minimum four hours advance notice of curtailment with courtesy day ahead notice
  • Best yet - you’re paid even if we don’t call
