Tell me about your experience here at KCP&L. What has been your most memorable moment or event with the company?
My experience here at KCP&L has been excellent. Since my start date in 2004, up until now, I have learned and experienced so many different things.

I started my career at KCP&L as an Automation Engineer. With that position, I had the opportunity to be involved in many innovative projects and be a part of implementing new technologies. I also had the honor of making a presentation three years in a row at a national automation and information technology conference called Distributech.

My most memorable moment was my very first presentation at Distributech in 2005. I remember how nervous I was because I had never spoken at a conference before. I am so grateful to have had such an opportunity!

What skills have you found to be most dominant with your career? And why?
People skills because as you are going forth with your daily routine, you realize that there are different levels of experience in the work force. If you ever find yourself needing assistance, there is always someone who’ll come to your aid, no matter what level of experience they may be. The saying, "Two heads are better than one," really stands out when I think of this company because working together helps to accomplish goals more efficiently.

Have you had any special projects, served on a task force or received a promotion?
Recently, in my new role as Distribution Engineer for the Northland territory, I have had the opportunity to assist in field design and come up with costeffective ways to serve new, large developments, such as Zona Rosa, a retail and entertainment district. In my previous role in distribution automation, I worked with the underground crew on a project involving the automation of the Downtown Kansas City and Plaza underground networks.

KCP&L believes in the importance in volunteerism as a tool for community improvements. List some of your volunteer activities.
KCP&L is very supportive of personal development opportunities as well as community service. It is very important to give back to the community and this is something that KCP&L’s leadership strongly believes in.

Why did you choose this specific field?
As a youth, I was always interested in science and math. I was part of a program that lead diverse students into engineering. The co-op in which I participated gave me a lot of exposure and knowledge to know that this was the right field for me.

What advice would you give a college student that is considering employment with KCP&L?
The first step to any career is to identify your interest. You must select jobs that appeal to your interest. KCP&L has lots of opportunities. Also, keep all of your options open when considering job opportunities at KCP&L.
