Who's Responsible for Repairs?

KCP&L now has three (3) service areas with different requirements for who is responsible for the repair work when your service is damaged. They are: - KCP&L
- Missouri Public Service
- St Joseph Power and Light Service
area.

KCP&L and St. Joseph Power & Light areas KCP&L installs and maintains your service line (1) and electric meter (6).
Maintenance of the service point of attachment (2), weatherhead (3), conduit riser (4) and meter socket (5) are the customer's responsibility. This will usually require a licensed electrician and may require an inspection by the local government inspector.
Note:
- If the meter socket is pulled away from your house and you have no power, KCP&L will perform a temporary fix when possible. You, the homeowner, are responsible for contacting an electrician for a permanent fix.
- If the meter can is damaged and you have power, you should call an electrician to re-attach the meter can. In some cases, KCP&L will need to be called to assist.
Missouri Public Service area KCP&L maintains everything except the service attachment, the conduit riser when it goes through the roof and the entrance cable to the service panel..
Maintenance of the riser when it passes through the roof is the responsibility of the customer. KCP&L will replace the wire in the riser if necessary.

- For new construction, the customer is responsible for providing and installing everything except the the service line (1) and electric meter (6).
