 The Energy Optimizer program offers a FREE programmable thermostat, including installation, for KCP&L residential and small commercial customers to manage their energy consumption throughout the year.
The programmable thermostat is set up to accept paging signals from KCP&L to reduce air conditioning load when demands on electricity are high. By participating in the program, KCP&L customers can save money, energy and the environment.

How does the program work?
On the hottest weekday afternoons from June through September, demands on KCP&L’s system are the highest. At these times, we may either raise your temperature a few degrees, or cycle the air conditioning compressor off and on for 15-minute increments for no more than 4 hours. Thermostats will display the word "SAVING" and the air-conditioning fan will continue circulating air.
This cycling will not occur on weekends or holidays. And, Energy Optimizer customers may choose not to participate one time per month by calling toll-free, 1-866-882-4429, or via the internet.
