KCP&L Wins the 2013 ReliabilityOne™ Award in the Plains Region for seventh year in a row
Award recognizes most reliable electric utilities nationwide

New York, NY (December 4, 2013) – KCP&L was recently recognized by PA Consulting Group as the recipient of the 2013 ReliabilityOne™ Award in the Plains Region. The ReliabilityOne™ Award is given annually to the utilities that have achieved outstanding reliability performance and have excelled in delivering reliable electric service to their customers.

“Despite having one of the toughest winters on record, our employees were and continue to be committed to providing safe and reliable power for all of our customers,” said Duane Anstaett, KCP&L vice president of Delivery. “It’s that spirit and dedication that has helped us win this award seven years in a row.”

Delivering reliable electric service is one of the foundations of KCP&L’s operating strategy. The company takes several steps to keep infrastructure in good condition, including identifying and replacing aging infrastructure. KCP&L also constantly monitors the transmission and distribution system so issues can be identified and addressed quickly, which results in fewer outages and reduced response time when outages do occur.

All utilities operating electric delivery networks in North America are eligible for consideration for the ReliabilityOneTM Award. There are a total of five regional awards including Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Plains and West. The selection of provisional recipients is based primarily on system reliability statistics that measure the frequency and duration of customer outages. After provisional recipients are selected, each company undergoes an on-site certification process, which provides an independent review and confirmation of the policies, processes and systems used to collect, analyze and report a company's reliability results.

“A customer-first commitment tends to pervade the company culture of ReliabilityOne™ Award winners,” said Jeff Lewis, PA Consulting Group’s ReliabilityOne™ Program Director. “KCP&L has proven itself an industry leader in reliability that prioritizes the customer over everything else.”
