KCP&L Crews to Help Twin Cities With Restoration

KCP&L 24-Hour Media Hotline
Kansas City, Mo. (June 21, 2013) – Today, approximately 39 KCP&L crew members left for Saint Paul, Minn., to assist Xcel Energy with restoration efforts following severe storms that hit that area.
After initial assessments of the damage, Xcel estimates more than 150,000 customers remain without power. Since the crews are unsure of the type of damage they will face when they arrive, they are prepared to stay and help for up to five days. Over the years, KCP&L crews have assisted several utilities with work like this including rebuilding electrical circuits and repairing damaged poles and downed lines to help restore customers without power.
“KCP&L is proud to be assisting Xcel Energy during the restoration efforts following these severe storms,” said Duane Anstaett, KCP&L vice president of Delivery. “Our crews will work diligently to restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible. They will take the same award-winning outage restoration work to Minnesota that they use here in our area.”
As a member of the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group, KCP&L is called upon often to help utilities with restoration throughout the year. In April, KCP&L sent crews to assist Xcel Energy after a severe ice storm rolled through that region knocking out power to thousands of customers. KCP&L is recognized as one of the most reliable utilities in the country, it is often one of the first utilities to be called during emergency situations.
The KCP&L team consists of linemen and several support personnel, including safety employees, managers, supervisors, materials representatives and mechanics from throughout KCP&L’s service territory.
