KCP&L’s Finance and Accounting team serves our customers on some of the most exciting projects in the company. We help drive our corporate growth strategy (including mergers and acquisitions and acquisition integration). We manage our investment portfolio. We research and support our energy efficiency initiatives. And we periodically perform energy market assessments, financial valuations and modeling. 

As a member of our Finance and Accounting team, you will get exposure to our top leaders and gain valuable experience with our toughest challenges – all while sharpening your finance and accounting skills.

We are looking to hire and develop our Finance and Accounting team’s future leaders. We are seeking people from top colleges and universities who will augment our department’s capabilities and skills. New thoughts, ideas and fresh points of view are welcomed – and expected.

Undergraduate and Graduate Internship Program

KCP&L interns dive right into meaningful projects. They receive mentorship from professionals in their focus areas and benefit from real-world experiences. They have an inside track for fulltime jobs with KCP&L – students in good standing after interning with us for at least two years typically receive an offer for employment after graduation.

Through this program, we aim to recruit the next generation of business leaders. Applicants must be seeking a bachelor’s or advanced degree, such as an MBA, JD or MD. Placement areas for qualified candidates include:

  • Accounting
  • Corporate finance
  • Corporate planning and budgets
  • Corporate strategy
  • Enterprise business systems
  • External reporting
  • GXP investments
  • Investor relations
  • Risk management
  • Treasury
  • Tax
Applicant requirements include:

  • Entering junior year in fall 2017
  • 3.5 or higher GPA (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Strong skills in communication, strategy, analytics, and leadership
  • Community and/or civic involvement

Finance and Accounting Strategic Training Program

The Finance and Accounting Strategic Training (FAST) Program is a two-to-four-year program that offers unique opportunities for those beginning their career. Participants can tailor the program to meet their desired career path through rotations in various focus areas of the division. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will have the opportunity to pursue management and leadership roles within Finance and Accounting or on other teams at KCP&L.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or advanced degree such as an MBA, JD or MD
  • 3.5 or higher GPA (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • 1-5 years of part- or full-time experience (internships, volunteer, non-profit and for-profit experience included)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
